Principles of method if other than guideline:
Initial testing: Approximately 100g of sample was placed in an open beaker, and heated on a hotplate. The temperature was monitored using a thermometer.
Further testing: Approximately 100g of sample was heated in a conical flask with the heat source provided from a hot plate. A condenser was used to collect any distillate from the substance, with a thermometer measuring the temperature of the test substance, and a second thermometer to monitor the condensate temperature. The sample was heated through a range of 100ºC to 220ºC, with the temperature of the condensate monitored throughout.

The sample was not observed to ignite during the test, therefore it can be concluded that the autoflammability temperature of 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphite is greater than 224ºC. The reported autoflammability of 2-ethylhexanol is 260 degrees C, hydrolysis product, and could be used to predict the autoflammability of the substance.
