Description of key information

The 96-hour LC50 of HFE s-601 to the fish Oryzias latipes (OECD203) was >0.572 mg/L. No toxicity was observed.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The toxicity of HFE s-601 to fish was assessed in three studies using Oryzias latipes. The key result is taken from a semistatic study. Solutions were prepared by overnight stirring at a loading rate 50 µg/L followed by removal of undissolved material. No dispersing aids were used. Solution renewal was every 24 hours. Analytically determined concentrations declined to 42.4 - 55.6% of starting concentration during each 24-hour interval. The time weighted average concentration was 0.572 mg/L. No toxicity was observed. The LC50 was therefore >0.572 mg/L, and the NOEC was 0.572 mg/L.

The two studies done as preliminary tests supporting BCF tests, no toxicity was observed for a 10 mg/L solution of HFE s-601 after 96 hours (study 1), and the LC50 was >10 mg/L after 96 hours (study 2). These tests were conducted using a mixture of dispersing aids, and are not considered reliable. Nevertheless, they provide additional information on the lack of toxicity of HFE s-601.
