*The selected temperature was suggested automatically by the Zündwertprüfer.

All ignition trials were conducted on 06. Dec. 2018 (atmospheric pressure during the trials 1002.6 mbar). Lowest value of the third test series is 406.12 °C, the drops, which needed, are 13 and the time until the ignition was detected, are 20 seconds.

1.1

The requirements for repeatability of the DIN standard are stated as follows: Three lowest values of the main test have to lie within a range of 10 K (if auto ignition temperature is above 300 °C).

The following lowest values were recorded:

Table9.1a          Lowest Values Main Test

Second test series

The lowest value of the auto ignition temperature is 406 °C. This value was determined using 13 drops test item. The test item showed auto ignition after 20 seconds.

The auto ignition temperature (result of determination) is the lowest value from the lowest values of the three experiments, rounded down to a whole multiple of 5 °C. Therefore, the auto ignition temperature is stated as 405 °C.

1.2

In the DIN, the following limits are applied to the range of lowest values which may be used for evaluation:

Table9.2a          Acceptable ranges

Auto ignition temp.

Range

> 300 °C

difference between three values of the main test max. 10 K

The three lowest values of the main test lay within a range of 10 K (as required for auto ignition temperatures above 300 °C). The largest difference between measuredignitiontemperatures was 4 K.

1        Discussion

The study was conducted according to procedure and demands of EU-Method A.15 and DIN 51794. The acceptable range which is demanded in the DIN standard was fulfilled.

All measured values show good correlation. No observations were made which might cause doubts concerning the validity of the study outcome.

2        Deviations

2.1        Deviations from the Study Plan

No deviations from the study plan were ascertained.

2.2        Deviations from the Guideline

The following deviation from the Guideline was ascertained:

TheZündwertprüfer 10-212-000instrument works with a program according to DIN EN14522.

This is a deviation from the EU-Method A.15 “Auto Ignition Temperature (liquids and gases)” as this norm is not mentioned there. An additional deviation occurs, as the method describes, that after one variation of drops the 2°C test modus will start, even when an ignition has occurred (cf. the orange mark in the schema). In the DIN method 51794 steps of 5°C are proposed in this case. As shown in the schema above the endpoint of the different guidelines is the same. It is possible that more ignition trials will be conducted using the EN 14522. Therefore, this can be considered as uncritical.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The lowest value of the auto ignition temperature is 406 °C. This value was determined using 13 drops test item. The test item showed auto ignition after 20 seconds.
The auto ignition temperature (result of determination) is the lowest value from the lowest values of the three experiments, rounded down to a whole multiple of 5 °C. Therefore, the auto ignition temperature is stated as 405 °C.
Executive summary:

Theauto ignition temperaturewas determined in three independent determinations. A lowest value of the main test of 406 °C was found.

Therefore, the auto-ignition temperature according to EU A.15 (rounded down to a whole multiple of 5 °C) ofMethyl 2-[(2-methylundecylidene)amino]benzoateis stated as 405 °C.
