FINDINGS

Pre-Test for Safety

After cooling down ,from a temperature above the boiling point, no signs of decomposition were observed.

Determination of the Flash Point

Search (pre-Test): 26.8 °C

1. Determination: 26.5 °C (the test vessel was cooled down to a temperature of 8.5 °C before test starts)

2. Determination: 25.5 °C (the test vessel was cooled down to a temperature of 5.0 °C before test starts)

EVALUATION AND RESULT

The flash point is given as the mean value of the duplicate determinations. The measured flash point is therefore 26.0 ± 0.5 °C (corresponding to 299.2 ± 0.5 K). Based on this result, the substance is evaluated as a flammable liquid Cat 3 (following the UN Handbook "Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods - Manual of Tests and Criteria" Rev. 6, 2015).

DISCUSSION

The difference between the two independent measurements was below 2 K. For this reason, the result is considered valid.

Flash point of hexanal was described in several handbooks/puplications. Described properties are nearly the same: hexanal has a flash point of about 32 °C. This fits with the experimental determined value and leads to the same classification.
