Results

The flame of the gas burner did ignite the test item pile. The test item expanded, glowed, burned with a yellow flame and turned into a black residue. Grey smoke was observed. After removal of the ignition source, the flame extinguished after 1 second and no propagation of combustion was observed.

 

Conclusion

The preliminary screening test was performed for the determination of the flammability of CD-3 / CAS 25646-71-3. No propagation of combustion of the test item along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed.  According to the guidelines, performance of the burning rate test is not required. Based on the results obtained, the test item is considered ‘not highly flammable’.

Additional information

The substance is not classified as a readily combustible solid according to the definition in the UN-class 4.1 (UN Test method N.1). Based on chemical structure and experience in handling and use, the substance is not expected to exhibit pyrophoric properties, or emit flammable gases upon contact with water. Also, substance is not self-heating, since melting point is < 160 °C. A liquid shows no self-heating behavior if it is not absorbed on a large surface.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:
