Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Based on the results obtained from the study, it is concluded that, the surface tension of Trans-2,3-Dibromo-2-Butene-1,4-Diol is 67.79 mN/m at 20 ± 0.5 °C.
Executive summary:

The study on “Determination of Surface Tension of Trans-2,3-Dibromo-2-Butene-1,4-Diol in Aqueous Solution” was performed in compliance with the Study Plan No. P/PCP2644/STEN/17 which incorporated the recommendation made in guidelines: OECD 115, EEC A.5.

The surface tension of test item was determined by ring method at 20 ± 0.5 °C. The method was based on the measurement of the force which was necessary to exert vertically on a ring in contact with the surface of the liquid. The tensiometer was calibrated using analytical grade water at 23 ±0.5 °C before the measurements. The surface tension of water was found within the acceptance criteria (72.3 ± 0.5 mN/m).

A solution of 1 g/L of test item was prepared in analytical grade water. Three samples of the test item prepared in analytical grade water were used to determine the surface tension at 20 ± 0.5 °C.

The surface tension of three samples of the test item was found 67.97 mN/m, 67.54 mN/m and 67.86 mN/m respectively. The mean surface tension of the test item was found 67.79 mN/m.

The test item was not considered as surface active compound as the surface tension value was found more than 60 mN/m.

Based on the results obtained from the study, it is concluded that, the surface tension of Trans-2,3-Dibromo-2-Butene-1,4-Diol is 67.79 mN/m at 20 ± 0.5 °C.
