Reference
Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
23 Feb - 1 Mar 2016
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
preliminary test only, due to gel formation
Principles of method if other than guideline:
No analytical measurement, but visual inspection of the solution. Reason: completely miscible in all concentrations and gelling for concentration
> 549 g/L.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: preliminary estimation, visual assessment
Key result
Water solubility:
549 g/L
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
7.49
Remarks on result:
other: With increasing amount of test item (> 549 g/L) a gel is formed.

Preliminary test:

To 2 g of water, the following aliquots of test item were added:

Experiment

Weighed sample [g]

Result

A

0.9233

clear liquid, viscous

B

0.5564

clear liquid

C

2.4303

clear gel, slight yellow

pH = 7.49 (10 % solution)

With 2.4303 g of the test item being mixed into 2 g of water, a gel with a total weight of 4.4303 g has been formed. This is equivalent to 54.9% (w/w) of test item in solution/gel. Due to the fact, that the formation of the gel is a continuous process and no discrete point can be identified at which dissolution in water switches to gelling, the water solubility can be approximated to 549 g/L.

Description of key information

approx. 549 g/L at 20 °C, pH=7.49

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
549 g/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The water solubility of the substance was determined according to OECD Guideline 105 (preliminary test). Gel formation at concentrations > 549 g/L was observed. Due to the formation of a gel the investigation was stopped after the preliminary test, and the water solubility was approximated to 549 g/L.
