Sampling:

2g of the sample was placed into a 250 mL Erlenmeyer. 200 mL of water was added into the Erlenmeyer with a stopper. Then the Erlenmeyer was placed in the shaking machine at 30 °C. The samples for 2 days, 3 days and 4 days were prepared by the same procedure.

Procedure:

The Erlenmeyer flasks were agitated at a speed of 250 rpm at 30°C for 1, 2 , 3 and 4 days. After stopping agitation, the Erlenmeyer flasks were equilibrated for approximately 1 day at 20 +/- 0.5 deg C with occasional shaking. The contents of the flasks were then transferred to a 50ml plastic tube and centrifuged for 5 minutes at a speed of 3000 rpm. The upper transparent aqueous solution was carefully taken by a pipette and filtered into a syringe-filter. The filtered solution was analysed by the total organic carbon analyser (TOC) to give organic carbon results. The TOC calibration plot was obtained by using standard reference materials such as potassium hydrogen phthalate for TC (total Carbon), sodium hydrogen carbonate and sodium carbonate for IC (inorganic carbon).

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The flask method from OECD TEST guideline 105 was chosen for the water solubility study. The amount of the chemical dissolved in water was analysed by the TOC (total organic carbon). The water solubility of bisphenol F was determined to be 2.97 g/L at 20 °C after 4 days of testing.
