Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The LC50 and NOEC for Desmodesmus subspicatus based on both growth rate and yield were determined to be >100mg/l based on nominal test concentrations. Nominal test concentrations were confirmed analytically.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L

Additional information

Two studies are available investigating the toxicity of 2-ethylpropane-1,3-diol (DMP) and 2-ethyl-2-(methoxymethyl)-propane-1,3-diol (TMM) components to algal species. The key study, a klimisch 1 study assessing toxicity to Desmodesmus subspicatus determined an LC50 and NOEC for both growth rate and yield of >100mg/l based on nominal concentrations (analytically confirmed).

A klimisch 2 supporting study investigated the toxicity towards the green algae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata. This study determined an EC50-value of 2512 mg/L for growth rate. The concentration was not analytically confirmed.
