Tin, dioctylbis(2,4-pentanedionato-κO2,κO4)- is highly hydrolytically unstable. In water the substance hydrolyses into n-Dioctyltin oxide and 2,4 -Pentadione.

The solubility of n-Dioctyltin oxide is to unimportant (6.6E-7 mg/L) to cause short time effects in environment. The long time behavior have to study in future (e.g. bioaccumulation, ...). So it is assumed that the short time aquatic toxicity depends on 2,4 -Pentadione.
