Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Additional information

The substance, (s)-2 -chloropropionic acid, is the single enantiomeric form of 2 -chloropropionic acid.

Specific data for physical and chemical properties is not readily available for the single enantiomeric form, however data on the racemic form is.

It is a well known fact that enantiomers differ from each other solely by their rotation of plane polarised light. In an achiral environment they are identical in all their physical and chemical properties. Therefore, the readily available data for the racemic form is equally valid for the single enantiomeric form, (s)-2 -Chloropropionic acid.

All the physical and chemical data supplied in section 4 of the dossier is for the racemic substance 2 -chloropropionic acid with the exception of pH (section 4.20) which was measured on (s)-2 -chloropropionic acid.
