Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
1995
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
study well documented, meets generally accepted scientific principles, acceptable for assessment
Remarks:
Performed according to inhouse method. Study is well performed and well reported.
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
According to inhouse AkzoNobel methods the Auto Ignition Temperature (AIT) was determined.
GLP compliance:
no
Key result
Relative self-ignition temperature:
600 °C
Remarks on result:
other: Submitted to a hot surface of ≥170ºC the substance decomposes (exotherm and smoke), "verpuffung" of the product can be expected. The autoiginition temperature of Halamid powder is 600ºC.

The Auto Ignition Temperature (AIT) of Chloramine-T is 600ºC. Submitted to a hot plate of 160°C Chloramine-T melts and decomposes slowly without a measurable thermal effect. Submitted to a 170ºC plate the material decomposes suddenly after about one minute. There is an exotherm and smoke ("verpuffung"). Therefore the Ingnition temperature (Tign), of Chloramine-T is 170°C.

Conclusions:
Submitted to a hot surface of ≥170ºC the substance decomposes (exotherm and smoke), "verpuffung" of the product can be expected. The autoiginition temperature of Tosylchloramide sodium, trihydrate powder is 600ºC.
Executive summary:

According to inhouse AkzoNobel methods the Auto Ignition Temperature (AIT) was determined. The Pruefer oven (or Godberg-Greenwald furnace) was used for the determination of the AIT of the product. The AIT of Tosylchloramide sodium, trihydrate powder is 600ºC. Submitted to a hot surface of ≥170ºC the substance decomposes (exotherm and smoke), "verpuffung" of the product can be expected

Description of key information

Submitted to a hot surface of ≥170ºC the substance decomposes (exotherm and smoke), "verpuffung" of the product can be expected. The autoiginition temperature of Tosylchloramide sodium, trihydrate powder is 600ºC.
