Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Toxicity to sediment organisms is not a standard information requirement in Annex IX. Therefore the equilibrium partitioning method has been used for the PNEC sediment derivation.

PNECsed derivation for sediment for Sodium diisobutylnaphthalenesulphonate using the EPM

In the absence of measured data the PNECsed can provisionally be calculated using the equilibrium partitioning method (EPM). According to the TGD this method uses the PNECaquatic and the sediment/water partitioning coefficient as inputs.

The PNECsed is then calculated using the equations detailed in the TGD:

PNECsed =   Ksusp-water* PNECaquatic dissolved* 1000 * 1 / RHOsusp

Where:

PNECaquatic       = 138 µg/L

Koc                            = 3162 L/kg

Focsoil                        = 0.02

Kd susp                      = FOCsusp-sed* Koc = 0.10 * 3162 =316.2 L/kg

Ksusp-water                 = 79.9 m3.m-3

RHOsusp                     = 1150 kg/m3

PNECsed-EPM            = 9.59 mg/kg ww

= 44.1 mg/kg dw
