Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
16 Oct - 25 Oct 2017
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to other study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
yes
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
Remarks:
The substance melted.

Results
The sample melted to a brown liquid, no ignition or propagation was observed. From the preliminary screening test, the sample was seen not to ignite and therefore no further testing is required.

Conclusion
The substance is not highly flammable.

Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is completely molten at 160°C

Description of key information

Non-flammable.

No pyrophoricity.

No flammability on contact with water.

Not self-heating.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

The substance could not be ignited, it melted upon preliminary flammability in a test according to EU Method A.10.

Based on in experience in handling and use and on the chemical structure, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.

The substance a solid with a melting point < 160 °C.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

No propagation of burning in a test according to EU Method A.10. Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected. The substance is liquid at 160 °C and a liquid shows not self-heating behaviour if it is not absorbed on a large surface.
