Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

MTDID 15670 is an ionic solid with a low vapor pressure. It will not volatilize to the atmospheric compartment. It is hydrolytically active. Measured hydrolysis half-life values are 2.08 hours at pH 7 and 4 °C, and 4.59 hours at pH 4 and 50 °C. The half-life at pH 9 was too short be determined analytically. The hydrolysis products are crotononitrile (CAS# 4786-20-3), dodecyl ethyl sulfide (No CAS#), and tetrafluoroboric acid, CAS# 16872-11-0 (dissociates to tetrafluoroborate in aqueous solution). Crotonitrile is expected to be rapidly removed from aquatic systems. Dodecyl ethyl sulfide is expected to be not persistent. Bioconcentration data are not available for the hydrolysis products. Based on estimated log Kow values, crotonitrile is expected not to bioaccumulate (modeled Kow = 0.62) while dodecyl ethyl sulfide (modeled log Kow = 6.8) is expected to be bioaccumulative or possibly very bioaccumulative. Organic carbon normalized adsorption coefficients were also calculated based on log Kow values. Crotononitrile is expected to have little tendency to sorb (Koc = 22) while dodecyl ethyl sulfide would sorb quite strongly (Koc = 410,000). Tetrafluoroboric acid will exist in dissociated form and as an inorganic anion is not subject partition or sorbtion to soils.
