Mechanical shock sensitivity
None of the six single tests with the impact energy of 40 J showed any sparking or exploding. No impact sensitivity of the test item was observed. Therefore the series with the impact energy of 7.5 J was not necessary.
Thermal sensitivity
The sample mass used for the tests was 43.6 g (corresponds to 27 cm³). Using the 6 mm orifice, after 30 – 31 seconds; the start of a reaction was observed in the three single tests (an orange/yellowish coloured flame, maximum height about 60 cm, was visible above the tube). The reaction lasted 50 – 57 seconds. After about 100 seconds, the steel tubes became red glowing in all cases. No further observation was made until the burners were turned off after 5 minutes. After cooling down it was observed that all the tubes were unchanged.
Using the 2 mm orifice after 30 seconds the start of a reaction was observed in the three single tests (an orange/yellowish coloured flame, maximum height about 60 cm, was visible above the tube). The reaction lasted 52 – 58 seconds. After about 110 seconds, the steel tubes became red glowing in all cases. No further observation was made until the burners were turned off after 5 minutes. After cooling down it was observed that all the tubes were unchanged.
No thermal sensitivity of the sample induced by intense heating under defined confinement was observed.
Description of key information
Explosiveness: Not explosive
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Explosiveness:
- non explosive
Additional information
The substance was determined not to exhibit thermal or mechanical sensitivity in a reliable study conducted according to an appropriate test protocol (EU Method A.14), and in compliance with a known quality system (ISO 17025). Under the conditions of the study, the test substance is therefore considered not explosive. The result is considered to be reliable.
Justification for classification or non-classification
The substance is not classified for explosivity on the basis of measured explosivity study in accordance with EU Method A.14.
