Results of a column leaching study for Allyl isothiocyanate (AITC) showed that the leaching potential of AITC is low to moderate.
Executive summary:

The three tested soils were a sandy loam (Watsonville), a loam (Salinas), and a clay loam (Blanco).

The soils had varying pH at which AITC was in its mobile form, organic carbon content, and texture. The soils had no history of treatment with AITC or chloropicrin. Soil collection occurred to a maximum depth of 20 cm. Vegetation and stones were removed from soils. Each soil was air dried, sieved and homogenized individually. Soil properties, including soil texture, pH, organic carbon content, and water holding capacity, were determined. Soil bulk density in packed columns was also determined.

 

The recoveries for most compounds were within the acceptable range of 80 to 120%.
