Justification:

Persistence: The substance is not readily biodegradable, however the degradation half-lives in freshwater (water and sediment) were below the thresholds defined by Annex XIII of REACH (T1/2 > 40 days in freshwater or > 120 days in freshwater sediment), therefore the substance is not P or vP.

Bioaccumulation: The log Kow value indicates that the test item is potentially B/vB. In a bioaccumulation study with mussels, the maximum BCF value was determined to be 801 L/kg, however steady state concentrations were not achieved. The bioaccumulation data provides support that the test item is not B and not vB based on the threshold defined in Annex XIII of REACH (BCF > 2000 L/kg), however no definitive conclusion can be made.

Toxicity: The acute and chronic effects levels for aquatic organisms exposed to the substance were above the screening criteria and the definitive limits set by Annex XIII of REACH and the substance is also not classified for mutagenicity, carcinogenicity or toxicity to reproduction. However, the substance is classified as STOT-RE Category 2, based on effects to the thyroid gland. Therefore, the substance is T.

Likely routes of exposure:

The substance is a UV filter, therefore it is expected that the substance is applied dermally (in sunscreen and cosmetic formulations). The substance is potentially released to aquatic environments during use.
