Safety-related Parameter
The results of the experimental investigations to determine the safety-related parameters are summarized.

Burning behavior
Using an ignition source (flame or hot wire, holding time of the flame 2 minutes) at room temperature, the test item could not be ignited. No spreading of combustion was detected

The sample did melt when applying the ignition source (flame or hot wire).

The investigation at an elevated temperature (100 °C) could not be carried out because the melting point of the substance is < 100 °C.

Using an ignition source (flame or hot wire, holding time of the flame 2 minutes) at room temperature and at an elevated temperature of 100 °C, the test item in mixture with Kieselguhr could only be ignited locally, with little spreading of the combustion.

Due to the fact that the test item did not show combustion at room temperature, the determination of the burning rate was not necessary.

Self-ignition in the Grewer-oven
In the investigation of self-ignition in the Grewer-oven initially an endothermic process was seen for the pure test item and the test item mixture with Kieselguhr in the temperature range of 50 to 70 °C. A second endothermic effect was seen for the pure test item and the test item in mixture with Kieselguhr in the temperature range of 200 to 230 °C.

Assessment
Burning behavior
The burning number of the test item at room temperature was determined to be BZ 1 (no ignition).

In mixture with Kieselguhr at room temperature and at an elevated temperature of 100 °C a burning number of BZ 3 (localized combustion or glowing with practically no spreading) was determined.

Therefore, the test item is classified as follows:

UN Transport Regulation: The test item does not have to be classified as readily combustible solid in class 4, division 4.1 according to the UN Transport Regulation.

GHS/CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.7: The test item does not have to be classified as flammable solid according to GHS or CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1:2.7, respectively.

Self-ignition
Up to the final temperature of the investigation of about 400 °C, the sample showed no exothermic processes.

For the determination of a safe temperature for handling the test item under air, it is resorted to the onset-temperature of an exothermic process. In the present case, no exothermic process is detected up to the final temperature of 400 °C. Thus, the maximum temperature of the test of 400 °C minus a safety margin of 100 °C is used as safe handling temperature under air. In the present case, the maximum temperature for safe handling is 300 °C.

Due to this result, the test item is classified as follows:

UN Transport Regulation: The test item does not have to be classified as self-heating substance in class 4, division 4.2 according to the UN Transport Regulation.

GHS/CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.11: The test item does not have to be classified as self-heating substance according to GHS or CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.11, respectively.
