Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
Deviations:
no

not specified
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Appearance: white powder
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test over 100 mm length
Remarks on result:
other: the flame extinguished shortly after the gas burner was removed, without propagating along the test train

The test substance was formed into a particle train. A hot flame from a gas burner with a diameter of about 6 mm was used to ignite the pile at one end. In the preliminary screening test, the substance was ignited by a hot flame from a gas burner. The flame extinguished shortly after the gas burner was removed without propagating along the test train. The test substance was not classified as a readily combustible solid of the UN Class 4.1.

The classification, based on the test results of the self-heating substances, is to be made according to the Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council on Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH).

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
Under the study conditions, the substance was not classified as a readily combustible solid.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the flammability of the substance according to the UN Test Method N.1 as described in the UN Recommendations of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criterian part III, sub-section 33.2.1.4. The test substance was formed into a particle train. A hot flame from a gas burner with a diameter of about 6 mm was used to ignite the pile at one end. In the preliminary screening test, the substance was ignited by a hot flame from a gas burner. The flame extinguished shortly after the gas burner was removed without propagating along the particle train. Under the study conditions, the substance was not classified as a readily combustible solid (Kintrup, 2016).

Description of key information

The flammability was determined according to the UN Test Method N.1 (Kintrup, 2016).
