The toxic potential of the substance to aquatic algae was evaluated following a method based on the OECD 201 Guideline. Selenastrum capricornutum were exposed to 7 concentrations of the substance ranging from 50.692 mg/l to 8602.17 mg/l for 72 hours. Four replicates of the substance and of the negative control which run in parallel were tested. The growth rate inhibition and the EC50 was determined based on the cell concentration measured. The concentrations of the test substance as well as the pH of the test solution and negative control were measured at 0 h and at 72 h.

Data from a literature study supports the evaluation of the toxic potential of the substance. The toxicity potential of the substance to green algae was evaluated after 2 hours of exposure to different concentrations of the substance (ranging from 0 -22000 mg/l). Fluorescence parameters were measured on 2 ml algal suspension after 1 and 2 h of exposure.

EC50 (2h) = 6065.9 ± 757.8 mg/l

For the chemical safety assessement the key study result is chosen as it derives from a test conducted following a method based on the OECD Guideline 201. In addition, the exposure duration is the exposure period suggested by the OECD 201 Guideline and the effect concentration is lower. The test item concentrations were monitored and there are more details considering the testing procedure. Considering the aforementioned, EC50 (72h) = 932.1 mg/l is used as a key value. The NOEC and/or the EC10 was not determined in the study.
