Additional information

Data on the aquatic toxicity of 2,5-Xylenolareavailable for three trophic levels (fish, aquatic invertebrates, algae). Based on the result of the key studies aquatic invertebrates are the most sensitive organisms with an EC50 (48 h) of 5.2 mg/L determined in a study following OECD 202. The effect concentration determined for fish is in the same magnitude. A LC50 (96 h) of 5.7 mg/L was reported in a study comparable to OECD 203. The growth inhibition of algae was tested in a study comparable to OECD 201. The determined ErC50 (72 h) was 29 mg/L (NOECr (72 h) = 5.00 mg/L).

Data on marine organisms are available forfish species Gadus morrhua and the echinoderm Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis. The EC50 (96 h) determined for G. morrhua was 13 mg/L. In the study on S. droebachiensis an EC50 (96 h) of ca. 5 mg/L was determined.

Data on the toxicity to microorganisms are available for the ciliate species Tetrahymena pyriformis. After 60 hours, an IC50 of 119.62 mg/L was determined based on growth inhibition.
