Executive summary:

The water solubility of 1-[(2-hydroxyethyl)thio]propan-2-ol was evaluated in accordance with the OECD Testing Guideline 105. A visual assessment was performed showing high values of solubility, which suggested that a shake flask test would not be appropriate as a saturated solution may not be achieved. A full visual test was then carried out to confirm whether the test item is miscible in all proportions in water.

Nine test solutions were prepared by weighing accurately between 1g and 9g of test substance into a small vial and adding between 9g and 1g of distilled water respectively to prepare test solutions between approximately 10% and 90%. The test solutions were mixed well and then examined for evidence of phase separation and precipitation.

The pH of each test solution was measured along with distilled water blank. The temperature at which testing was performed was not specifically recorded. The testing was performed at ambient lab temperature, typically 22°C.

No phase separation was observed. The substance was miscible in all proportions with water. It can be concluded that the water solubility of the substance is > 897.3 g/L at 22°C.
