Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Tests at three trophic levels are available.

In a test according to OECD 203 (semi static with renewal every 24 hours, Envigo 2017), 7 rainbow trouts/concentration were exposed during 96 hours to 0 and 100 mg/L of the substance. The measured concentrations were between 101 -105% of nominal. No mortality or abnormal behaviour was observed at 1, 3, 6, 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours after the start of exposure in controls and at 100 mg/L. The LC50 is therefore > 100 mg/L.

In a static test according to OECD 202 (Envigo 2017) 20 daphnids/concentration were exposed to 0 and 100 mg/L in Elendt M7 medium. Measured concentrations at 0 and 100 mg/L were at 0 and 48 h: <LOQ and < LOQ, and 98.0 and 96.3 mg/L. No immobility was observed. The 48 h EC50 for daphnia magna is > 100 mg/L.

Lemna minor was exposed to an aqueous solution of the substance at concentrations of 1.0, 3.2, 10, 32 and 100 mg/L (three replicate flasks per concentration) for a period of 7 days, under constant illumination at a temperature of  24 ± 1 °C (Envigo 2017).  The number of fronds in each control and treatment group was recorded on days 0, 3, 5 and 7 along with observations on plant development. Measured concentrations were 95 -96% of nominal. No effects on yield and growth rate were observed at any of the concentrations tested based on frond count and/or dry weight. The EC50 is > 100 mg/L.

In a test according to OECD 209 (Envigo 2017), no inhibition of the respiration of micro-organism in activated sludge was observed at 10, 100 and 1000 mg/L. The NOEC is 1000 mg/L. This confirms the results of an earlier study (RCC 1989) where the inhibition of oxygen at 100 mg/L was 12.4% (IC50 is > 100 mg/L).

Additional information

The starting point for the derivation of the PNECwater will be 100 mg/L. No sensitivity difference between the species tested was observed.

The starting point for the derivation of the PNEC STP will be the NOEC of 1000 mg/L
