Description of key information

The potential of N,N'-diphenyl-p-phenylenediamine to cause dermal corrosion/irritation was assessed in an in vitro skin irritation and corrosion test strategy including The Skin Corrosion Test (SCT) and Skin Irritation Test (SIT) using the EpiDermTM model. The substance was not corrosive in the corrosion test and not irritant in the irritation test.

The potential to cause eye irritation or irreversible eye damage was tested in an in vitro eye irritation test strategy including the Bovine Opacity and Permeability Test (BCOP, OECD 437) and EpiOcularTM Eye Irritation Test. The mean IVIS of the test substance-treated corneas in the BCOP test was 0, the mean viability of the test substance-treated tissues was 85.4%. Based on these results, N,N'-diphenyl-p-phenylenediamine does not show an eye irritation potential under the test conditions chosen.
