Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Surface tension (triethoxyhexadecylsilane): not relevant

Silanol hydrolysis product (hexadecylsilanetriol): 56.35 mN/m at 20 °C at suturation concentration

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The requirement to test the substance for surface tension is waived because in contact with water the substance rapidly hydrolyses to form hexadecylsilanetriol and ethanol.

Hexadecylsilanetriol has a surface tension value of 56.35 °C in a reliable study using a relevant test method. As such, it is considered to be slightly surface active.
