Description of key information

2-amino-6-chloro-4-nitrophenol did not have oxidizing properties as the combustion did not propagate when mixtures (test substance/cellulose) was ignited with bunsen's burner flame.

Additional information

The oxidizing property of2-amino-6-chloro-4-nitrophenolwas determined following EU Method A.17 (Oxidizing Properties) and the GLP.

In the preliminary test performed,test substance was mixed with the dried cellulose in the proportion 2 to 1 (w/w) and the mixture was formed into a small cone-shaped pile in the system. The ignition source was put in contact with the cone. No ignition or significant strong reaction was observed.

The maximum burning rate of 0.63 mm/sec was achieved with barium nitrate (reference substance) mixed with dried cellulose in the proportion 40 to 60 (w/w). Burning rate with dried cellulose formed into a pile was 0.51 mm/sec.

During the main test,the test substance was mixed with the dried cellulose in various ratios ranging from 10 % to 90 % of test substance. The mixture was formed into a 250 mm pile, placed onto a stainless steel plate and the pile was ignited at one end by a Bunsen's burner flame.

 

Burning did not propagate in any of the mixtures tested.

2-amino-6-chloro-4-nitrophenol is not an oxidizing solid.

The test sample is considered as not oxidising according to CLP criteria.
