Description of key information

Ozone is a colourless to pale blue gas with a pungent odour. The gaseous substance liquefies at –111 °C (boiling point), becomes solid at –193 °C (melting point) and the density of ozone gas, calculated with the Ideal Gas Law, is 1.962 g/L at 25 °C. The water solubility of the gas decreases with increasing temperature and is 0.57 g/L at 20 °C. The calculated partition coefficient (log Pow) of ozone is –0.87 hence no bioaccumulation hazard arises because the substance is endothermic and therefore not stable. Ozone is not capable of undergoing further reaction with oxygen and therefore not combustible. However, it is classified as category 1 oxidizing gas.
