Description of key information

Two reliable feeding studies with birds using sodium molybdate as test substance have been identified. The 28 day study by Davies et al (1960), reported a NOEC of 400 mg Mo/kg. A more recent 30 day study by Stafford et al (2016) with bobwhite quail resulted in comparable NOAEC of 134 mg Mo/kg bw/day. The effects that were noted at higher concentrations levels, however, proved to be reversible.

These studies indicated that birds have a similar sensitivity as rats.
