Principles of method if other than guideline:
In this work the octanol-water partition coefficient was determined by reverse-phase HPLC. The preferred method for determining this ratio is reverse-phase HPLC since the experimental conditions closely match the physical property being measured. Specifically, a very non-polar stationary phase which represents octane and a polar mobile phase which represents water. This methodology is valid if a significant number of calibrants of known Log Pow are used that span the entire elution range of the samples of interest.
