Preliminary Test

Starting at 315°C, the weight of the sample decreased significantly. At 342°C, the sample weight had decreased by 25%.

After the experiment, a black molten residue remained in the sample container (original colour: white). The change of the colour indicated reaction and/or decomposition of the test item.

Main Study

An endothermic peak was observed between 200°C and 250°C. The extrapolated onset temperature of the peak was 237.431°C. The endothermic effect was most likely obtained due to melting of the test item. An exothermic peak was observed between 275°C and 342°C. The exothermic effect was due to reaction and/or decomposition of the test item.

After the experiment, a brown/black molten residue remained in the sample container.

In order to investigate the melting peak, Experiment 2 was stopped directly after the melting peak. The extrapolated onset temperature was 237.051°C. After the experiment, a light yellow molten residue remained in the sample container (original colour: white) container. Based on this visual observation, it was found that the test item had molten and the change of the colour demonstrated reaction and/or decomposition of the test item.

The melting temperature was determined as the mean melting temperature of Experiment 1 (237.431°C) and Experiment 2 (237.051°C)

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The melting and boiling temperature of V123109 were determined by DSC.
The melting temperature of the test item was 237.2°C (510.4K). The estimated accuracy, according to the OECD Guideline 102 , for this method is ± 0.5°C.
Reaction and/or decomposition of the test item was observed during DSC experiments during and after melting. Boiling of the test item was not observed below the temperature at which reaction and/or decomposition started. Based on this, the test item has no boiling temperature.
