Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Anthracene is acutely phototoxic towards all three test organisms (fish, daphnia, alga). The EC50 / EC50 values consistently are very low over all species tested with about 1 - 4 µg/L.

In the absence of UV radiation, the evidence of acute toxicity within the range of the water solubility of the substance (~40 - 70 µg/L) is seldomly observed but in solitary cases: A 48h-LC50 of half the saturation (~ 36 µg/L) is reported by Abernethy et al. 1983).

One 48h-EC50 (daphnia) of about 750 µg/L (obviously at above water solubility) is reported, which was obtained without UV radiation (Smith et al. 1988).
