Hazard for air

Hazard for terrestrial organisms

Hazard for predators

Additional information

Based on experimental data, anthracene shows acute toxicity within the range of its water solubility (~40 - 70 µg/L). Aquatic toxicity is most pronounced in fish, daphnia and algae in the presence of UV-A light. But there is some evidence that in solitary investigations anthracene caused mortality below maximum water solubility.

Conclusion on classification

Based on acute toxic data, anthracene should be classified as hazardous for the aquatic environment with N, R50.
