Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Details on results:
As 2-Coumaranone rapidly hydrolyses in water to o-hydroxyphenyl acetic acid (OHPAA), it was decided to test the breakdown product OHPAA. The concentration of OHPAA was determined at start and end of the exposure period and 2-coumaranone equivalents were calculated.
The concentration of 2-coumaranone equivalents were 7.14, 3.57, 1.67, 0.75, 0.38 and 0.18 mg/L at the start and end of the exposure period. Based on the calculated equivalents, the toxicity of 2-Coumaranone is based on the nominal exposure concentrations.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
The 48, 72 and 96 h LC50 values of 2-coumaranone equivalents were calculated to be 6.09 mg/L.
The highest concentration causing no mortality was 3.57 mg/L of 2-coumaranone equivalent (nominally 4 mg/L).
