Sampling and analysis

Analytical monitoring:
yes
Details on sampling:
Chemical analyses of water samples were conducted before and after each renewal.

Test solutions

Vehicle:
yes
Details on test solutions:
Toxicity to P. reticulata was tested in 96 h lethality tests, carried out using a semi-static system (24 h renewal). 10 fish were exposed to 1 L test solution in 1.5 L jars. Stock solutions were made in iso-propanol for each concentration. Test solutions were prepared 24 h in advance by spiking 0.5 mL iso-propanol stock to 1 L CFW, and stirring until use. Control animals were exposed to 0.5 mL/L iso-propanol.
Test concentration ranges were attempted to be from 4xEC50 to EC50/4, where EC50 values were collected from literature, or estimated from pilot experiments or QSAR.

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Poecilia reticulata
Details on test organisms:
Guppies were cultured at 23 ± 1 °C under a 12 h photoperiod. Animals were fed everyday with commercial fish food. 2-3 months-old (1.8 ± 0.3 cm and 69 ± 34 mg) female animals were used in the lethality tests.
