Description of key information

A long-term toxicity to the earthworm Eisenia andrei was conducted in accordance with the OECD 222 Test Guideline and GLP requirements.

Earthworms were exposed to a series of concentrations of the test item for 56 days. No significant effects on adult mortality were observed after 28 days; the 28d-NOEC for mortality was ≥ 1000.0 mg/kg dry soil. As there were statistically significant differences in number of juveniles between pooled controls and the treatment group of 1000.0 mg/kg dry soil, the NOEC for reproduction was statistically determined to be 555.6 mg/kg dry soil. Lastly, statistically significant differences in bodyweight change compared against pooled controls were determined in the 308.6, 555.6 and 1000.0 mg/kg dry soil treatment groups. The 28d-NOEC for bodyweight change was thus determined to be 171.5 mg/kg dry soil.

The lowest NOEC (171.5 mg/kg dw for bodyweight change) was selected for the chemical safety assessment.
