During the cooling and the subsequent heating phase, no thermal effects were observed in the temperature range of -100 – 25 °C. It can be assumed that the test item has no melting or freezing point in this temperature range. Therefore the test item has no melting point down to a temperature of -100 °C.

Conclusions:
The test item has no melting point down to a temperature of -100 °C at 1013.25 hPa.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted according to OECD test guideline 103, to determine the melting point of the test item using differential scanning calorimetry. The test item was weighed out into an aluminium crucible under an inert atmosphere (nitrogen). Two tests with about 10 mg of the test item were performed. As reference crucible, an empty aluminium crucible was used. The substance is a liquid at ambient conditions. Therefore the crucibles were cooled down from ambient temperature to -100 °C with a constant cooling rate of 0.25 K/min under an inert atmosphere. After a waiting period of 30 min at -100 °C, the temperature was increased up to 500 °C at a constant heating rate of 10 K/min. In the temperature range of -100 °C – 25 °C, no thermal effects were observed. Therefore the test item has no melting point down to a temperature of -100 °C.

Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 Annex VII section 7.2 of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH), no further test on melting point need to be conducted as the melting point of the substance is below -20°C.

A supporting study was available according to OECD test guideline 103 to investigate the melting point of the test item using differential scanning calorimetry. The substance is a liquid at ambient conditions. Therefore the crucibles were cooled down from ambient temperature to -100 °C. Afterwards the temperature was increased up to 500 °C at a constant heating rate of 10 K/min. In the temperature range of -100 °C – 25 °C, no thermal effects were observed. Thus, it was concluded that the test item has no melting/freezing point down to -100°C.
