Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

SULFONYL VINYL ETHER PERFLUORURATE is a liquid at standard conditions with a high tendency to volatilize (Vapor pressure = 12kPa at 20°C).

If released in the environment the main compartment of distribution is therefore expected to be the atmosphere.

SULFONYL VINYL ETHER PERFLUORURATE is expectd to not undergo to significant biotic degradation in any of the environmental compartments.

No sufficient information are available for assessing the of abiotic degradation of SULFONYL VINYL ETHER PERFLUORURATE in the environment.

Additional information

SULFONYL VINYL ETHER PERFLUORURATE is a liquid at standard conditions with a high tendency to volatilize (Vapor pressure = 12kPa at 20°C).

Due to analytical issues due to the high volatilization no exact determination of the water solubility value could be performed, however during testing and handling SULFONYL VINYL ETHER PERFLUORURATE has been observed to be poorly soluble in water.

Basing on the measured high vapor pressure and the observed low water solubility, the Henry Law’s constant is expected to be high. Consequently in a system water-air the main compartment of distribution would be the air.

Due to analytical issues no reliable measurement of Log Kow is available (The Log Kow of SULFONYL VINYL ETHER PERFLUORURATE was estimated to be ca 3.4 but this estimation is affected by an unknown uncertainty and therefore it is considered not reliable). However, considering the observed high volatility which prevented a correct determination of the Partition coefficient Octanol-Water of SULFONYL VINYL ETHER PERFLUORURATE, it is expected that in a system organic matter-air the main compartment of distribution of the substance would be the air.

As other fluorochemical products SULFONYL VINYL ETHER PERFLUORURATE is not be expected to undergo significant biodegradation in any of the environmental compartments.

There is evidence that the -SO2F group of the molecule may undergo to hydrolysis in alkaly conditions and followed by acid treatment (trial conducted on similar compound at the temperature of 50°C, 60°C and 75°C), to be converted to the sulfonic acid , while hydrolysis of -SO2F group is kinetically disadvantageous at acid and neutral pH at room or higher temperatures (60°C, 70°C and 80°C). No further data of abiotic degradation of the molcule are available.
