In two ready biodegradation studies, the test substance CHDM DGE did not meet the criteria of readily biodegradable.

In an OECD 301B test,TKK 30113, ARALDITE DY 0395 (Similar components of CHDM DGE) was tested for its ready biodegradability in the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Evolution Test (Modified Sturm Test) at ca. 37 mg per 2 litres, corresponding to ca. 12 mg TC/1. The Theoretical C02 production (ThCÛ2) of TKK 30113, ARALDITE DY 0395 was calculated to be 2.380 mg C02/mg based on the TC-content. The relative degradation values calculated from the measurements performed during the test period revealed slight degradation (23%) of TKK 30113, ARALDITE DY 0395 in test bottle B, but no significant degradation of TKK 30113, ARALDITE DY 0395 in test bottle A (significant: >10%). Under the conditions of the study, TKK 30113, ARALDITE DY 0395 was not readily biodegradable in the modified Sturm test.

In an OECD 301FManometric Respirometry Test, a series of biodegradation reaction mixtures containing a non-adapted activated sludge inoculum, which was suspended in a defined mineral medium at a concentration of 30 mg/L (dry solids), were employed. Biodegradation of the test material (51.1 mg/L equivalent to 111 mg/L as theoretical oxygen demand [ThOD]) reached 19.1% based on biological oxygen demand (BOD) at the end of this 34-day test. These results show that some biodegradation occurred under the conditions of the test, indicating that CHDM DGE is fully mineralised at a slow rate.
