Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The test was not performed experimentally because practical experience, e.g. when handling small amounts of the test substance repeatedly in air during testing for various properties. Also experience from the test for auto-ignition of the test substance at elevated temperature is available. The test substance does not ignite in air at ca. 20 °C and even not at temperatures up to 300 °C. The test substance is therefore regarded as not being pyrophoric.
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The test was not performed experimentally because practical experience exists at the sponsor and the test facility, e.g. when preparing analogue test substance solutions for testing for biodegradation, algae growth inhibition test and hydrolysis. The analogue test substances in contact with water do not develop any gas at all. Therefore triacetoxyvinylsilane is regarded as not being flammable in contact with water.
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is not a solid.

Description of key information

Flammability in contact with water: Data waiving (study scientifically not necessary): The test was not performed experimentally because practical experience exists at the sponsor and the test facility, e.g. when preparing analogue test substance solutions for testing for biodegradation, algae growth inhibition test and hydrolysis. The analogue test substances in contact with water do not develop any gas at all. Therefore triacetoxyvinylsilane is regarded as not being flammable in contact with water.

Pyrophoric properties: Data waiving (study scientifically not necessary): The test was not performed experimentally because practical experience, e.g. when handling small amounts of the test substance repeatedly in air during testing for various properties. Also experience from the test for auto-ignition of the test substance at elevated temperature is available. The test substance does not ignite in air at ca. 20 °C and even not at temperatures up to 300 °C. The test substance is therefore regarded as not being pyrophoric.

Flammability of solids: Data waiving (study technically not feasible): The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on experience on handling and use, the substance is stable and does not became spontaneously flammable or emit flammable gases in contact with water, and neither does spontaneously ignite when exposed to air, Triacetoxyvinylsilane is considered to be non-flammable; therefore, the substance is not classified in accordance with CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
