Additional information

Skin irritation: A single dermal application of test substance produced a Primary Irritation Index of zero, thus placing the material into the lowest available class of ‘mildly irritating’ to the skin.

Eye irritation: A single installation of 100 mg of test substance into the conjunctival sac of six New Zealand White rabbits provoked corneal and conjunctival lesions in four animals regarded as positive reactions under this method. Therefore the test substance was considered to elicit a positive result as an eye irritant. The positive reactions had resolved by Day 8 and may therefore be considered as reversible. According to current clasification criteria this substance can be considered mild irritant.

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: slightly irritating

Effects on eye irritation: slightly irritating

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the irritation studies to skin and to eye, Dibromoneopentyl glycol does not need to be classified as irritant to skin or eye according to Directive 67/548/EEC or Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
