Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the toxicity of the test substance to activated sludge bacteria according to OECD Guideline 209 (activated sludge respiration inhibition test). Activated sludge was exposed to nominal concentrations of 0, 64, 160, 400 and 1000 mg/L for 3 h. The positive reference 3,5 -dichlorophenol was run in parallel and presented an IC50 of 9.1 mg/L. Temperature, pH and oxygen inhibition were recorded at the end of the test. Under the study conditions, the nominal 3 h IC50 and IC10 of the test substance were >1000 mg/L (Schnalke, 1997).
