First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures:

In case of inhalation: Move victim to fresh air. Seek medical treatment in case of troubles.

Following skin contact: Immediately wipe affected skin area with paper towel or cloth.

Immediately clean with water and soap followed by thorough rinsing.

In case of skin irritation, consult a physician.

After eye contact: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of flowing water for 10 to 15 minutes holding eyelids

apart. In case of troubles or persistent symptoms, consult an opthalmologist.

After swallowing: Rinse mouth with water.

Never give an unconscious person anything through the mouth.

Consult physician immediately.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed:

After contact with skin: sensitising

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed:

Treat symptomatically.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media:

Suitable extinguishing media:

Foam, extinguishing powder, Carbon dioxide.

Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons:

High power water jet

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:

Combustible. In case of fire may be liberated: silicon dioxide, traces of incompletely

burned carbon compounds, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.

Advice for firefighters:

Special protective equipment for firefighters:

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing to protect skin and eyes.

Additional information: Hazchem-Code: -

Cool endangered containers with water jetspray.

Do not allow water used to extinguish fire to enter drains, ground or waterways.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Remove all sources of ignition. Wear suitable protective clothing.

Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing.

Do not breathe vapour/aerosol. Provide adequate ventilation.

Environmental precautions:

Do not allow to penetrate into soil, waterbodies or drains.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:

Soak up with absorbent materials such as sand, siliceus earth, acid- or universal binder.

Store in special closed containers and dispose of according to ordinance. Final cleaning.

See paragraphs Exposure controls/ personal protections and Disposal considerations for further information.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling:

Advices on safe handling: Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing. Wear suitable protective clothing.

Do not breathe vapour/aerosol. Provide for good room ventilation, suctioning/venting.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Requirements for storerooms and containers:

Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place.

Keep away from heat sources, sparks and open flames.

Protect from humidity and water.

Store containers in upright position. Do not drop, drag or bang the container.

Do not re-use the empty container. Do not weld.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Provide adequate ventilation, and local exhaust as needed. Use local exhaust.

Personal protection equipment:

Occupational exposure controls

Respiratory protection: Respiratory protection must be worn whenever the WEL levels have been exceeded.

Use filter type AX (= against vapours of low boiling organic substances) according to EN 14387.

Hand protection: Protective gloves according to EN 374.

Glove material: Plastic or rubber

Breakthrough time: >480 min.

Observe glove manufacturer's instructions concerning penetrability and breakthrough time.

Eye protection: Tightly sealed goggles according to EN 166.

Body protection: Wear suitable protective clothing.

General protection and hygiene measures:

Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing.

Take off immediately all contaminated clothing.

Do not breathe vapour/aerosol. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

Work place should be equipped with a shower and an eye rinsing apparatus.

Wash hands before breaks and after work. Rinse mouth with water.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity:

With exposure to water, acids, alkalis, product will release methanol.

Chemical stability:

Stable under recommended storage conditions.

Possibility of hazardous reactions

No dangerous reactions with proper and specified storage and handling

Conditions to avoid

Protect from excessive heat. Protect from moisture contamination.

Incompatible materials

Water, acids, alkalis

Hazardous decomposition products

Methanol.

Thermal breakdown of this product during fire or very high heat condition may evolve the following hazardous decomposition products: silicon dioxide, traces of incompletely burned carbon compounds, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.

Thermal decomposition: No data available

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods:

Product:

Waste key number: 07 02 16* = Waste containing hazardous silicones

* = Evidence for disposal must be provided.

Recommendation: Special waste. Incinerate as hazardous waste according to applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

Contaminated packaging:

Waste key number: 15 01 04 = Metallic packaging

Recommendation: Residual substance emptied and rinsed clean. Do not re-use the empty container.

Dispose of waste according to applicable legislation.

Handle contaminated packages in the same way as the substance itself.
