In a ready biodegradability test according to OECD 301 C and non-GLP a degradation of 18 - 27 % was observed after 14 days (ECB 2000). 10 mg/L test substance and 30 mg/L inoculum (non-adapted, activated sludge) were used. Additionally, biodegration measured as oxygen consumption (electrolytic respirometer) reached 39 to 46 %. According to these results, the test substance is regarded as not readily biodegradable. However, a test result on inherent biodegradation according to OECD 302 B is also available (ECB 2000). Activated, domestic, non-adapted sludge was used. 93 % degradation could be measured after 5 days. Therefore, the test substance is regarded as inherently biodegradable. The results are supported by several other data given in the ECB-IUCLID for 2-aminophenol. Primary biodegradation and inherent biodegradation was observed in different tests. In overall conclusion, 2-aminophenol is regarded as not readily biodegradable but inherently biodegradable.
