Description of key information

The 72-h ErC50 and NOErC values are 0.67 mg/L and 0.15 mg/L, respectively in freshwater algae (P. subcapitata).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
0.67 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.15 mg/L

Additional information

A GLP compliant study was performed, according to OECD guideline 201, to determine the effect of tetramethyl bisphenol A (TMBPA) (nominal test concentrations 0.010, 0.026, 0.064, 0.16, 0.40 and 1.0 mg/L) on the growth of the freshwater green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata.  Exposure of algae to TMBPA for 72 hours resulted in median effective concentrations (EC50) of 0.37 and 0.67 mg/L for cell yield and average growth rate, respectively. The 72 hour no observed effect concentration (NOEC) was 0.15 mg/L for both yield and average growth rate.
