Description of key information

Based on the most sensitive parameter (mean number of cumulative live offspring

per female), the EC10 value for 1,3-bis(3-methyl-2,5-dioxo-1H-pyrrolinylmethyl)benzene and Daphnia magna were calculated to be 0.205 mg/L.
The 21 day NOEC and LOEC values for reproduction were determined to be 0.800 and > 0.800 mg/L, respectively.

Additional information

In order to test the chronic toxicity to invertebrates of 1,3-bis(3-methyl-2,5-dioxo-1H-pyrrolinylmethyl)benzene, Daphnia magna was exposed to the test solution of five nominal concentrations (0.026, 0.064, 0.16, 0.40 and 1.0 mg/L), control and solvent control for a period of 21 days under flow-through conditions. According to OECD guideline 211 (Daphnia magna Reproduction Test) (2008), the following results were obtained:

For Offspring per female (reproduction) an EC10 of 0.205 mg/L and an EC50 of >0.800 mg/L were calculated. A LOEC of >0.800 mg/L and a NOEC of 0.800 mg/L was determined.

For Survival of parental (Mortalibitity) an EC10 of 0.342 mg/L and an EC50 of >0.800 mg/L were calculated. A LOEC of 0.800 mg/L and a NOEC of 0.334 mg/L was determined.

For Length of female an EC10 of >0.800 mg/L and an EC50 of >0.800 mg/L were calculated. A LOEC of 0.334 mg/L and a NOEC of 0.151 mg/L was determined.

The first brood of offspring was on exposure day 7.

Recoveries of the 0.026, 0.064, 0.16, 0.4 and 1.0 mg/L 1,3-bis(3-methyl-2,5-dioxo-1H-pyrrolinylmethyl)benzene samples measured on day -4 ranged from 131 to 152 % of the nominal fortified levels. Based on these results and the verification of flow rates of the diluter, the proper functioning of the diluter was illustrated four days before experimental start.
