The freezing point of a pure sample is determined by making measurements of the temperature as a function of time while the sample is submerged in a constant temperature bath at a temperature below that of the expected freezing point of the sample. The data (Temperature vs. time) is plotted; this plot is known as a cooling curve. The freezing point is the value of temperature in the flat portion of the curve. |
