Description of key information
Appearance:
In an experiment conducted by SSS(Europe) AB,on the basis of physical observation the chemical Nonylphenol ethoxylates was observed to be slightly hazy colorless liquid in appearance.
Freezing point:
The Freezing point determination of Nonylphenol ethoxylates (CASNo.127087-87-0) was done using crushed ice and salt bath. No freezing was observed up to - 11.84 °C. Hence, the freezing point was inferred to be less than -11.84°C at 977.5 hPa.
Boiling point:
The boiling point determination of Nonylphenol ethoxylates (CAS No. 127087-87-0) was done following OECD Guideline 103 and according to the method of Siwoloboff. The test was conducted in replicates and mean boiling point was determined to be 188.6°C at 977.7 hPa.
Density:
The density of chemical Nonylphenol ethoxylates (CAS No. 127087-87-0) was determined following OECD Guideline 109 and according to the Indian standard method for determination of density of liquids [IS 4730:1994 (Reaffirmed 2010)]. The mean density of Nonylphenol ethoxylates was determined to be1.042 g/cm³ at 20°C and 977.8 hPa
Particle Size Distribution:
The study does not need to be conducted because the test chemical is marketed or used in a non- solid or granular form.
The chemical Nonylphenol ethoxylates was observed to be slightly hazy colorless liquid in appearance.
Hence this endpoint was considered for waiver.
Vapor Pressure:
MPBPVP v1.43 was used to estimate the vapour pressure of4-Nonylphenol, branched, ethoxylated. The estimated vapour pressure of4-Nonylphenol, branched, ethoxylated at 25 deg C was 4.86E-010 Pa = 3.65E-012mmHg deg C.
Partition Coefficient:
The partition coefficient of Nonylphenol ethoxylates (CAS No.127087-87-0) was determined by the Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatographic method according to OECD Guideline No. 117 for testing of Chemicals. The reference substances were chosen according to structural similarity with the test substance and calibration graph was prepared. The reference substances were 4-methoxyphenol, phenol, benzene, 2,6-diphenylpyridine, toluene, ethylbenzene, n-butylbenzene and diphenylether having Pow value ranging from 1.3 to 4.9.
The Log Pow value for Nonylphenol ethoxylates (CAS No.127087-87-0) was determined to be 5.669± 0.006 at 25°C.
Water Solubility:
WSKOW v1.42 was used to estimate the water solubility of4-Nonylphenol, branched, ethoxylated. The estimated water solubility of 4-Nonylphenol, branched, ethoxylated at 25 deg C was 1.104 mg/l . This value indicates that 4-Nonylphenol, branched, ethoxylatedis slightly soluble in water.
Surface tension:
From the available data of ACD labs, the surface tension of Poly (oxy-1,2-ethanediyl), alpha-(4-nonylphenyl)-omega-hydroxy-, branched (127087-87-0) was determined to be 35.9.0±3.0 dyne/cm.
Flash point:
The flash point determination of Poly (oxy-1,2-ethanediyl), alpha-(4-nonylphenyl)-omega-hydroxy-, branched (127087 -87 -0) was done as per the test guideline OECD 103. The method is closed cup method using Pensky Martin’s Flash Point Apparatus. The flashpoint of the test substance was found to be 110.3°C at 977.8 hPa. Based on criteria mentioned in CLP regulation the chemical has flash point >than 60 degree C hence Poly (oxy-1,2-ethanediyl), alpha-(4-nonylphenyl)-omega-hydroxy-, branched (CAS No 127087 -87 -0) was considered to be non-flammable.
Autoflammability:
Nonylphenol ethoxylates did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°Cpressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that Nonylphenol ethoxylates is not auto-flammable.
Flammability:
Poly (oxy-1,2-ethanediyl), alpha-(4-nonylphenyl)-omega-hydroxy-, branched does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that Poly (oxy-1,2-ethanediyl), alpha-(4-nonylphenyl)-omega-hydroxy-, branched is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus Poly (oxy-1,2-ethanediyl), alpha-(4-nonylphenyl)-omega-hydroxy-, branched was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.
Explosiveness:
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.
Oxidising properties:
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidising properties and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
pH:
pH of 1% w/v aqueous solution of the test substance Poly (oxy-1,2-ethanediyl), alpha-(4-nonylphenyl)-omega-hydroxy-, branched (CAS No127087 -87 -0) is 5.95 at 26 °C. Thus, 1% solution can be considered to be acidic in pH.
Viscosity:
The viscosity determination of substance Nonylphenol ethoxylates (CAS No. 127087-87-0 ) was done as per the test guideline OECD 114 using Redwood Viscometer No. 1. Kinematic viscosity (experimental) of Nonylphenol ethoxylates at 20°C and 40°C is 30.03 mm²/sec and 23.61 mm²/s, respectively. Dynamic viscosity (calculated) of Nonylphenol ethoxylates at 20°C and 40°C is 31.29 mPa.S and 24.60 mPa.S, respectively
