Appearance:

In a study conducted by Sustainability suppport services(2016) on the basis of physical observation the chemicalTris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)naphthalene-2,7- disulphonato(2-)]dialuminium was observed to be red colored powder in appearance.

Melting point:

The melting point determination of Tris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)naphthalene-2,7- disulphonato(2-)]dialuminium (CAS No. 68475-50-3) was done following OECD Guideline 102 and according to the metal block capillary method. The test was conducted in replicates and Mean Decomposition Range (°C) was found to be 342.75-346.75°C at 971.9hPa.

Boiling point:

According to Column II of Annex VII, the boiling point study does not need to be conducted for solids which either melt above 300 °C or decompose before boiling.

The substance Tris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)naphthalene-2,7-disulphonato(2-)]dialuminium(CAS No.68475-50-3)is a solid at room temperature and it is reported to decompose at a temperature of 342.75-346.75°C without melting .Hence, it is not feasible to determine boiling point and the endpoint wasconsidered for waiver.

Density:

The density of test item Tris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)naphthalene-2,7-disulphonato(2- )]dialuminium (CAS No. 68475-50-3) was determined following OECD Guideline 109 and according to the method Adapted from ASTM D854-02 using glass pyknometer .The density of test item is was found to be 1.425 g/cm³ at 20°C and 971.2 hPa.

Particle size distribution:

The particle size distribution of test test item Tris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)naphthalene-2,7- disulphonato(2-)]dialuminium (CAS No. 68475-50-3 ) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was determined to be in the range of 150 micron to 25 micron.

Vapour pressure:

Modified Grain method was used to estimate the vapour pressure of the test chemical using MPBPVP v1.43 of EPI SUITE. The estimated vapor pressure of Aluminum, tris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)-2,7-naphthalenedisulfonato(2-)]di- was 3.36E -019 Pa at 25°C

It is reported as 0.000000001 Pa for the chemical safety assessment due to the limitation in the field.

Auto flammability:

Tris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)naphthalene-2,7- disulphonato(2-)]dialuminiumdid not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C and atmospheric pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that Tris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)naphthalene-2,7- disulphonato(2-)]dialuminiumis not auto-flammable.

Flammability:

Tris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)naphthalene-2,7- disulphonato(2-)]dialuminium ignites only when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that Tris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)naphthalene-2,7- disulphonato(2-)]dialuminium is flammable only at high temperature of about 950°C. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, Tris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)naphthalene-2,7- disulphonato(2-)]dialuminium was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.

Partition coefficient:

KOWWIN v 1.68 of EPISUITE was used to estimate the octanol water partition coefficient of the test chemical.

The estimated log Pow of Aluminum, tris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)-2,7-naphthalenedisulfonato(2-)]di- was 0.4845.

Based on this value, it can be concluded that Aluminum, tris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)-2,7-naphthalenedisulfonato(2-)]di- is hydrophillic in nature

Water solubility:

WATERNT v1.01 of EPISUITE was used to estimate the water solubility of the test chemical

The estimated water solubility of Aluminum, tris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)-2,7-naphthalenedisulfonato(2-)]di- at 25 deg C was1000000 mg/L

Based on the results, it can be concluded that Aluminum, tris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)-2,7-naphthalenedisulfonato(2-)]di- is highly soluble in water.

Surface tension:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The chemical Tris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)naphthalene-2,7- disulphonato(2-)]dialuminium is used as a cosmetic chemical. For this use, surface activity is not an important property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.

Flash point:

The flash point determination of Tris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)naphthalene-2,7-disulphonato(2- )]dialuminium (CAS No. 68475-50-3) was done following closed cup method using Pensky-Martens flash point apparatus. The test was conducted and flash point was found to be greater than 250°C at 970.2hPa.

pH:

The pH determination of test item itemTris[5-amino-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)naphthalene-2,7-disulphonato(2-)]dialuminium (CAS No. 68475-50-3 )was done following OECD guideline 122. The pH of 1% w/v aqueousdispersionwas measured with the help of pH meter and the mean pH was observed to be 4.36 at 29 °C .
