Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: estimated
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The n-octanol / water partitioning coefficient was estimated from the 1-octanol solubility and the water solubility. The 1-octanol solubility was found to be less than 15.4 mg/L. The test item has water solubility of 1.6 g/L. Therefore, an estimation of the partition coefficient based on the 1-octanol solubility and the water solubility will be 0.009. This corresponds in a negative log Pow (log Pow = -2).

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The n-octanol / water partitioning coefficient was estimated from the 1-octanol solubility and the water solubility. The 1-octanol solubility was found to be less than 15.4 mg/L. The test item has water solubility of 1.6 g/L. Therefore, an estimation of the partition coefficient based on the 1-octanol solubility and the water solubility will be 0.009. This corresponds in a negative log Pow (log Pow = -2).

This result is supported by the partition coefficient of the following analog substances.

Diethylphosphinic acid: log Pow – 0.53
Phosphinic acid, diethyl, sodium salt: log Pow – 1.88
Phosphinic acid, diethyl, zinc salt: log Pow – 2.2

To make the value more robust we have started an experimental study to determine the partition coefficient.
